Berlin -- A Very Green City

We are in Berlin now. I felt totally foreign here because I totally don't know the language. This is probably the first city I've been to where there are hardly English signs anywhere.

Berlin is a very green city -- not only there are trees and plants everywhere but people here are very environmental friendly. I found the following facts:
1) you hardly feel any air-conditioning when you are indoor, like hotels, restaurants, buses, trains or even when you are at the biggest department store (KaDeWe).
2) they try not to use any plastic bottles at all in the stores. Most of the small drinks are glass-bottled.
3) you have to pay for a plastic bag (.10 Euro) at the supermarket if you need one.
4) they use recycling toilet paper and hand towels in the public restrooms.
5) you see smart cars/trucks and bikes everywhere.

I also found:
they like to carbonate all drinks, including water;
they have bear statues everywhere just like Buffalo city having buffalo statues everywhere;
the architecture of many buildings is very unique in a modern sense and well-designed, that is, you hardly see any "boring" buildings on the streets;
most of the buses have double decks on them.

Berlin is such a fun city for us to explore except it reminded me of NYC ooolong trip while we were aimlessly wondering for awhile in the city with 4 suitcases to try to find our hotel on the first day!

Some photos were uploaded to my Picasa album. Please go there to check them out!!

Auf Wiedersehen
